18 de marzo We are now beginning our end of the year review - we are creating our DICCIONARIOS that will contain all the information we have learned in Spanish class this year. Our first page covers LOS DEPORTES, or, sports words.
11 de marzo Last day working with "Las Excusas" song and video. We worked in small groups to put the 8 excusas lyrics from our song into correct order on poster paper with a corresponding illustration. These papers are now displayed in the hallway outside of our classroom. We sure have a lot of excusas sinceras to explain why "no hicimos nuestra tarea de espanol".
4 de marzo In conjunction with our "Excusas" video, we completed our three pages that go with it (the lyrics - in Spanish, a personal opinion page and an illustration page of some of the Excusas from the song). These were sent home. We wrapped up class with a fun game of ZAP! in small groups to review the Spanish words and phrases in the song.
19 de febrero We worked with Spanish ordinal numbers today by watching Sr. Wooly's video - "Las Excusas". We will be working with this song and video the next couple of classes and even singing some karoake with it as well. Great job, fourth graders.
7 de febrero Continued work with "los deportes". The students created posters with illustrations of our Spanish vocab words and you can see their work hanging in the hallway outside of our classroom.
28 de enero Continued work with our new unit, "los deportes". We Created a bar graph depicting our favorite "deporte". Each student took a turn describing aloud "Mi deporte favorito..." using Spanish only. Great job, fourth graders!
22 de enero The fourth graders are now moving on to a new unit, "Los deportes" or, Sports words! We got into small groups and each group decided on ten sports vocab words they would like to learn. Then we created a top ten list from all the groups that will be our list of words to practice these next few weeks.
11 de diciembre Continued practice with our adjective words - we also utilized the portable computer lab and practiced with some fun links from this website.
27 de noviembre Fourth graders continue to work with Spanish adjectives and desribing words - we created acrostic poems in Spanish using our first and/or last names with our Spanish vocabulary words in them.
6 de noviembre Fourth graders are now beginning a new unit that includes Spanish adjectives. We will be learning how to describe ourselves as well as others, with personality and appearance related Spanish vocabulary words.
16 de octubre Fourth graders learned about the Spanish alphabet and how it is similar to and different from our English alphabet. Ask your child what he or she noticed about el alfabeto. We practiced spelling our names aloud in Spanish and also took turns spelling some words aloud in Spanish and guessing at what the word was.
9 de octubre Finished up our projects from last week (see last entry) describing the weather in Spanish. We also played a card grab game in small groups with this new information. Great job, fourth graders!
2 de octubre The fourth graders are now learning how to describe the weather in Spanish. We watched a powerpoint to help us learn this information and then worked on creating posters with illustrations for the Spanish phrases.
September 25 The fourth graders learned how to talk about the weather using complete Spanish sentences. We watched a powerpoint that included some useful phrases to help us answer the question "Que tiempo hace hoy?" and practiced saying these aloud.

28 de agosto Today was fourth grade's first day back in Spanish class! It was great to see all their smiling faces! Fourth graders will meet for Spanish once a week for 30 minutes. Our first day included a read aloud of the Spanish story "David va al colegio" and this helped us talk about class rules. The children were able to make flip charts with our Spanish and English classroom rules we heard in the story, and then we decorated their flip charts with a picture of our amigo David! I am looking forward to a great year! Please check back for updates as we learn this school year!!
26 de marzo We are now working with our last unit of the year, Action words. We have done some written practice with our 12 vocab words, as well as guessing aloud the Spanish vocab word that a classmate acted out. Soon we will begin our end of the year review and create our Word Journals with all of our information from this school year.
27 de febrero To finish up our Spanish alphabet unit, the fourth grade students are creating Spanish ABC books. They are using our Spanish-English dictionaries along with their own prior knowledge to create these books and we will send them home when completed. 13 de febrero The fourth graders are now working with the Spanish alphabet and learning how it is both similar to and different from the English alphabet. The students learned how to pronounce each letter in the Spanish alphabet. We practiced spelling our names aloud in Spanish and took some guesses at the Spanish words that I spelled aloud. Great job, fourth graders.
31 de enero All finished with our DEPORTES words and today we did a quick review with some work on los meses del ano - the months of the year. These pages will be sent home next week.
26 de enero Last week with our DEPORTES vocab words. We reviewed with a fun game of !Que lastima! Ask your child how we played.

Week #10 We are now starting a new unit and learning how to talk about the weather in Spanish. We also completed two practice pages; these were sent home. We also learned some new words in Spanish that helped us talk about the days of the week, which include hoy (today), manana (tomorrow), ayer (yesterday), es (is), fue (was). Finally, we worked on a practice page from our series that included the days of the week, and the students practiced creating complete Spanish sentences to talk about the calendar.
Week #7 This week the fourth graders worked in the computer lab to practice Spanish numbers. We used the link listed above under Fun Links (the second one listed); feel free to practice at home to help reinforce the concepts taught in class! Week #6 We are moving on from our classroom objects words; now we will be focusing on Spanish numbers and we have reviewed how to count up to 31, as well as the Spanish numbers for one hundred and one thousand. This helps us when we are using the calendar and saying the date in Spanish. Great job, fourth graders.
Week #5 Fourth grade continued our practice with los objetos de la clase. Our sheet from last week was sent home with our 16 vocab words on it. We added these words to our Spanish notebooks and then we ended our class with a partner game in which the students had picture cards that represent each of our Spanish words, and they had to race to grab the card that illustrated the Spanish word I said aloud.

Week #1 Fourth grade Spanish classes have begun! All students meet once a week for class (either on Tuesday or Thursday morning) for 30 minutes. Our first meeting included a discussion of our important class rules, consequences and classroom procedures.

Week #29 Worked in small teams today on a review game called ZAP! This helped the fourth graders to practice their listening and speaking skills in Spanish. Week #28 Got a chance to work with the portable computer lab; the students did some review and practice on our Fun Links page off of this website! Week#27 To celebrate Cinco de mayo, the fourth grade classes worked in smalll teams on some Spanish language games and activities. Feliz cinco de mayo!! Week #27 Back from break! Played a game of Spanish Loteria! (or Bingo) to review some of the Spanish we have learned this year. Also used class time for those who have not yet completed their word journals to work on these and then take them home (if you would like to use the journals for extra practice and review). Week #26 Finalmente! We have finished our end of the year word Journals. This week we reviewed our Sentimientos words (feelings) and made the last page in our journals. These journals were sent home with the students. Great job, fourth graders!! Week #25 More work in our review journals. Fourth graders today worked on two pages for our journals, one with our "Deportes" or Sports words and another for all of our Calendar related words and phrases in Spanish.
Week #24 Continued work in our end of the year review journals (see last entries). Fourth graders are currently reviewing Spanish numbers 0-40.
Week #23 Week #12 Continued our porjects from last week related to the feast of the Virgin de Guadalupe (see last entry). Our next unit of study will be "los sentimientos" or, talking about how you are feeling.
Week#11 Week #10 We are now continuing our work with Spanish calendar related words and phrases (see last entry) and also took some class time to practice this info with a fun review game. The fourth graders are doing a great job!

We also created illustrations to go with our vocab words. These pages were sent home. 3 de octubre We have continued to practice our basics in the classroom which include: the Hail Mary prayer in Spanish, describing the weather, and working through all calendar words and phrases in Spanish. Today we finished reviewing with Como estas? by answering in complete sentences with a Spanish verb and adjective. Next week we will introduce a new unit. Great job, fourth graders!!
30 de septiembre Fourth graders have been practicing with our "routine" information that we will begin each class with. This includes going over the calendar (hoy, manana, ayer y la fecha con los numeros y el mes) as well as the Hail Mary prayer in Spanish. Next week we will learn how to ask about and describing the weather.
17 de septiembre Our first unit this year has had our students working with Senor Wooly's "Puedo ir al bano?" video! We did a vocab page, we filled in the lyrics page and also completed page 7 - all sent home. Finally, we ended our class with a few volunteers to sing our Spanish song karaoke style for the class. Bien hecho, fourth graders!!
