30 de septiembre Kindergarten continues to practice our Spanish basics: Answering the question "Como estas?" with our three responses - bien, mal, asi-asi. Ask your child what these words mean! We also introduced ourselves to each other using the Spanish phrase "me llamo"...(my name is...). Finally, we ended class with a Spanish read aloud about titled David se mete en lios or David Gets in Trouble!

4 de marzo We have now begun our end of the year review; we will be making end of the year word journals with all the themes we have covered in Kindergarten. Our first two pages are a review of Spanish numbers 1-20. We will be working on these the next couple of weeks and these books will be sent home when completed!
4 de febrero Ask your child if they can tell you how to say Look(Mira), Listen (Escucha), Fly (Vuela), Run (Corre), as well as Eat (Come), Swim (Nada), Sleep (Duerme), and Jump (Salta). We practiced how to say our new words aloud, and we also did a read aloud of the story "Abuela" by Arthur Dorros, which includes some of our new Spanish words. 29 de octubre Continuing our practice with los colores. Our lesson included a read aloud of the Eric Carle book Oso Pardo, Oso Pardo, que ves ahi? (Brown bear, Brown bear, What do you see?). We listened to the Spanish version and were able to make predictions in the text using our colors vocabulary words!
18 de octubre We have now begun our new unit "los colores". We are practicing with a fun Spanish song. We also completed a practice page listing our voacb words. The students colored in the circles to match the Spanish word and these sheets were sent home. Kindergarten is doing a great job!!
October 1 Finished up our Greetings vocab by creating a Spanish poster to take home, with all this info on it. Next week we will start a new unit, los colores!

27 de agosto Kindergarten Spanish classes have begun! It was great to see some new faces as well as some familiar ones!! Kindergarten classes will be meeting for 20 minutes once a week. Our first meeting included the students introducing themselves in Spanish. We discussed our rules and consequences, and also listened to a read aloud - in Spanish - of a favorite story titled "David va al colegio" (David goes to school). We learned how English and Spanish have many similar sounding words as heard in our storybook. New vocab we learned today: Me llamo... My name is Hola ...... Hello Please check back for updates on our progress as we learn this school year.

We are now learning Spanish color words. We first started class off with our Hello song, then we practiced out loud our color words. 21 de marzo February 28 Starting a new unit, Action Words! We learned four new words and acted them out to help us remember. Then we did a read aloud of "De la cabeza a los pies" (From Head to Toe) by Eric Carle, and acted out the story as we read it aloud in Spanish. February 21 No school, Presidents Day! February 14 Finished up our Family words unit with a Take Home poster that the students created with our vocab on it. We also played a fun partner card grab game; ask your child how we played!! February 7 More practice with La familia vocab; we took a practice "quiz" page aloud (sent home) and we also listened to a Spanish read aloud of "La familia de Clifford". January 31 Continued practice with La Familia vocab. We also created illustrations of our family vocab and some students even labeled their drawings with a Spanish vocab word or two. These pages were sent home. The kindergarten classes are doing a great job!! January 24 We continued our work with Spanish familia vocab. We worked together on a cut and paste project that included a secret word at the end. These papers were sent home. January 17 No School! January 10 Kindergarten has started a new group of words, LA FAMILIA. We practiced how to say our new words aloud, and a page was sent home with this information on it if you would like to practice. Also, we did a read aloud of the story "Abuela" by Arthur Dorros, which includes some of our new Spanish words. December 20 Kindergarten took a break from our regular unit to spend our class time in the computer lab. The children learned how to log on to this web site; you can always use it at home if you are looking for some extra practice! The children were able to work on our brand new computers and also get familiar with using the new mouse as well. December 13 Continued our work with Spanish numbers 1-20. We practiced aloud with number flashcards, and we also played a numbers game to help us learn this vocab. Finally, we finished class with a Spanish read aloud of the story "Si yo tuviera un dragon"...If I had a dragon!
December 6 Kindergarten students continue to practice our numbers 1-20. They are such fast learners!! We reviewed with our new song, Cuenta. Ask your child to sing it for you. Then we played a fun game of Matamoscas. Ask your child how we played.

November 1st Kindergarten students practiced our color words with a game of "Matamoscas"; ask your child how we played. We finished class with a read aloud of Eric Carle's "Oso pardo, Oso pardo, Que ves ahi?" (Brown bear, Brown bear, What do you see) which was read completely in Spanish. The students did a great job predicting the Spanish color words in this familiar story. Great job, Kindergarten!
