October 1 The second grade has now completed our unit of classroom objects - "los objetos de la clase". They did a fantastic job!! We played two review games to reinforce our Spanish vocab and next week we will move on to a new unit.
10 de septiembre Our first unit this year will be "los objetos de la clase" or Classroom Objects. We reviewed the words we already learned from last year and then added new ones to our list! We also practiced writing the words in Spanish as well on page 29 which was sent home.
27 de agosto Today was second grade's first day back in Spanish class! It was great to see all their smiling faces! Second graders will meet for Spanish once a week for 30 minutes. I am looking forward to a great year! Please check back for updates as we learn this school year!!

22 de abril Second grade students were able to utilize the portable laptops today in class, very exciting! We tried out some of the Spanish review games on the Fun Links tab. 11 de marzo Took a break from working with our end of the year journals and reviewed our COMIDA vocabulary from last with with a fun small groups game of ZAP!
4 de marzo We have now begun our end of the year review; we will be making end of the year word journals with all the themes we have covered in Second Grade. Our first two pages are a review of Action words and la comida! We will be working on these the next couple of weeks and these books will be sent home when completed!
19 de febrero Last day of practice with our Action words! We played two fun review games in small groups; ask your child how we played!! Great job, second graders.
5 de febrero We are now using our Spanish action words to write complete Spanish sentences to tell about ourselves. We used: Me Gusta... No me gusta... Necesito... and Quiero.... with our action words to tell about ourselves. We will have fun reading these aloud to the class next week!
29 de enero The second graders have started our last unit for the year, action words. The students had fun acting out our vocab and guessing the Spanish word aloud.
14 de enero Continued work with our food vocabulary - we are creating complete Spanish sentences to talk about the foods we like and dislike (Me gusta). We are adding illustrations to match our Spanish sentences and will be sharing these aloud - using Spanish only - with our classmates.
2 de diciembre The second graders took a trip to the science lab to use the Smartboard to practice our Spanish food vocabulary. We were able to use the smartboard to do our calendar practice as well. We also played a matching game and a memory game using the smartboard. Great job second graders!!

13 de noviembre Second graders started a new unit, La Comida = Food words! We practiced these new vocab words aloud and in writing; we also did a practice page with riddles describing the Spanish words. These pages was sent home.
30 de octubre More practice with our calendar information in Spanish, but this time we focused on los numeros to help us talk about the date (using complete Spanish sentences). We practiced Spanish numbers counting aloud as well as writing the number words in Spanish. The second graders are doing a great job.

9 de octubre Second grade is now moving on to learn about the calendar and related words and phrases in Spanish. We reviewed the days of the week using our calendar and we also practiced with our numbers vocab to say the date in Spanish. Finally, we worked on a written practice page with our calendar info. 28 de agosto Today was second grade's first day back in Spanish class! It was great to see all their smiling faces! Second graders will meet for Spanish once a week for 30 minutes. Our first day included a read aloud of the Spanish story "David va al colegio" and this helped us talk about class rules. The children were able to write down one - or more - of the rules in Spanish that we discussed from the book and decorated their paper with a drawing of our amigo David! March 22 Continued practice with our Places vocab. We reviewed this vocabin small groups by playing a fun board game using these words. Great job, second grade. Next week we will begin our end of the year review.
March 1 Today we began a new unit, Places words. We introduced our new vocab (both written and aloud), then we practiced these words with a word shapes sheet. These two pages were sent home.
23 de febrero Last day of practice with our Sentimientos Spanish vocab words. We created mini-books with these vocab words and then did an illustration to match the Spanish words. Some of the students shared their books aloud with the class; these books were sent home.
16 de febrero The second grade classes continue to work on our new unit, "los sentimientos", or "feelings" words in Spanish. We played a fun partner card grab game in which the students had to use their Spanish listening skills; ask your child how we played. Great job, Second Graders!!

19 de enero We have begun working with a new unit of words, los sentimientos, or Feelings! Now we will have much more interesting answers to our ?Como estas? question. We practiced our words aloud as well as in writing with a fun poster we are creating.
12 de enero Welcome back and Happy New Year!! The second grade classes continued to practice our action words in Spanish. We got into small groups and worked through two centers with our vocab. One center was a memory game with our Spanish and English words, and the other was a board game with our Spanish and English words. The second graders are doing a great job!!

We also reviewed some of our old songs in Spanish from last year and did a Spanish read aloud of one of our favorite stories.

September 1 It was great to have the second graders back in the Spanish room this year and see all their smiling faces! Our first meeting today included a discussion of our very important class rules, consequences and classroom procedures. Second grade students meet for Spanish for 30 minutes once per week, on Thursday afternoons. Please check back for updates on our progress.
26 de mayo No hay clase - Spring Break!! 14 de abril Today we worked again in our word journals (see last entry); this time we reviewed our basic everyday Spanish phrases and expressions we learned back in the beginning of the year. We made two pages to add to our journal with this information. 7 de abril Today we continued working on our end of the year review Word Journals. 24 de marzo February 10 Today we began a new unit, Places! We learned how to say 12 new places words in Spanish and this list was sent home if you would like to review our new vocab.
February 3 January 13 Second graders continue to work with "Los Sentimientos" (feelings words, see last entry). We worked through a practice page together and also worked with the portable computer lab on the fun links section of this website! December 16 Second grade continued to work with our action words; this week we created Spanish sentences using some Spanish prompts that include: Me gusta (I like), No me gusta ( I don't like), Quiero (I want) and Necesito (I need). We added an action word on to these phrases and then read our sentences aloud to the class to tell about our likes and dislikes, using complete Spanish sentences. Great job, second graders!! December 9 Second graders took a break from our regular lessons to discuss the Mexican legend of the poinsettia. We learned about how this plant came to be a symbol of Christmas in many countries of the world. We also read aloud the Legend of the Poinsettia in class and then created our own paper poinsettias to decorate our hallway.
December 2 Second graders continue to practice our ACTION words in Spanish; today we did two different activities, one for speaking aloud practice with a fun game of ZAP! in small groups. The other was a writing practice activity; the students wrote their vocab words Rainbow letters style on a practice page. Great job, second graders!! November 18 The second grade continued to practice our new Action Words! Today we worked together on a Word Shapes sheet; this page was sent home. 11 de noviembre The second graders continued to practice our calendar/numbers/days of the week vocab and worked on saying the day and the date in Spanish. We also began a new group of words - Action words. We practiced saying these new words aloud, we also wrote the Spanish and English meanings, and finally, we "acted out" the action words and let a classmate guess the vocab word using Spanish only. 21 de octubre Second grade is now moving on to learn about the calendar and related words and phrases in Spanish. We reviewed the days of the week using our calendar and practiced our days of the week song in Spanish. We also practiced with our numbers vocab to say the date in Spanish. Finally, we worked through two worksheets using calendar info.
