3 de octubre Last day of practice with describing the weather in Spanish. We played a fun new game called "Lo tengo". Ask your child what this means and how we played! They did a great job; bien hecho third graders!
19 de septiembre Third grade has now begun our first unit "El tiempo" or, the weather. We are learning how to describe the weather in complete Spanish sentences. We have practiced aloud as well as with a written page (sent home) and even in small groups for a fun card game using our new Spanish sentences. Feel free to practice with your child using the page we sent home!!

21 de marzo Continued with our end of the year review journals (see last entry). We are working on all of the ANIMALES vocabulary that we learned with Ms. Ramos this year.
4 de marzo We have now begun our end of the year review; we will be making end of the year word journals with all the themes we have covered in Third Grade. Our first page is a review of La Comida! We will be working on these the next couple of weeks and these books will be sent home when completed!
7 de febrero The students continue to work with and review our "los animales" unit and today learned that, in Spanish, the animals make different sounds!! We had fun saying these sounds out loud. Thanks for all of your hard work in our classroom, Senorita Ramos!!
24 de enero The third grade classes are lucky to be working our student teacher, Ms. Ramos, from North Park University. The students are currently working on an animal words unit and have also learned a fun Spanish song to help remember the vocab. We look forward to working with Ms. Ramos with the third graders!
2 de diciembre Third grade students took a break from our regular classes to learn about the special feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which takes place next week. We learned the story behind this feast day and we also discussed why this day is important. The third graders learned what the special meanings and symbols are that are associated with the Virgin of Guadalupe.
29 de noviembre Third graders are just about finished working with our COMIDA unit (food words). We played a review game in small groups to help practice saying the words aloud and next week we will begin something new!!
November 1 We continue to work with our Comida vocabulary; we are now discussing the foods we like - "Me gusta comer..." and the ones we do not like - "No me gusta comer..." as well as writing complete sentences in Spanish using our vocabulary words.

30 de agosto Today was third grade's first day back in Spanish class! It was great to see all their smiling faces! Third graders will meet for Spanish once a week for 30 minutes. Our first day included a read aloud of the Spanish story "David va al colegio" and this helped us talk about class rules. The children were able to write down several of the rules in Spanish that we discussed from the book and decorated their paper with a picture of our amigo David! I am looking forward to a great year! 26 de marzo We are now working with our last unit of the year, Action words. We have done some written practice with our 12 vocab words, as well as guessing aloud the Spanish vocab word that a classmate acted out. Soon we will begin our end of the year review and create our Word Journals with all of our information from this school year.

13 de febrero Continued work with La Comida. We worked on a fun partner grab game to practice our Spanish listening skills, using our vocab list. Great job, third graders!
23 de enero More practice with LA COMIDA. We completed our paragraphs describing what we like and do not like to eat, using Me gusta and No me gusta comer...These will be hanging up in the hallway. We finished class with a game of !Que lastima! to help us practice speaking our Spanish words aloud. Great job, third graders!!

9 de enero Welcome back! Feliz ano nuevo! We are now beginning a new unit of study, la comida, or FOOD! We will be practicing this our next couple of classes.
24 de octubre Played a fun game in small teams to help us with our calendar related words and phrases; ask your child how we played! Great job, third graders. 17 de octubre Third graders worked on discussing the calendar in Spanish; saying the days of the week, the months, as well as the date (using our prior knowledge of numbers to 31). We talked about how the calendar has similarities and differences in Spanish and English. Finally, we worked on a practice page from our series that included our days of the week vocab. This page was sent home.
10 de octubre No hay clase! No school today! 3 de octubre Today we were able to practice our Spanish numbers (see last entry) in the computer lab! We worked on our website to reinforce this vocab and also took some time at the end of class to play some Spanish games in the Fun links section listed above on this page.
26 de septiembre We are moving on to our next unit and we will be focusing on Spanish numbers and we have reviewed how to count up to 31. This helps us when we are using the calendar and saying the date in Spanish. We also completed a review sheet with these words that was sent home. The third grade is doing a great job!! This week we continued to work with the Spanish phrases listed below (see last entry). We worked in small groups and played two fun review games called "Que lastima!" and ZAP!; ask your child how we played!

23 de mayo Our last Spanish class this year! We spent our time playing a few fun review games. Great job this year third graders; I hope everyone has a wonderful summer!! 16 de mayo Third graders played a review game called ZAP! in small teams to help us practice our speaking and listening Spanish skills. Ask your child how we played!! May 9 Last page in our end of the year word journals - los numeros 0 - 30. These books were sent home with those who have them completed; great job third graders!! May 2 Third graders continue to work on their end of the year word journals and this week included our page with los objetos de la clase, or, classroom objects in Spanish. April 18 & 25 No hay clase! Spring Break! 11 de abril More work in our end of the year word journals, today we reviewed Sentimientos (feelings) vocab and made another page for our journal. When our journals are completed they will be sent home!! 4 de abril Continued work in our end of the year review journals (see last entry). Today we made a page with our Spanish words for La Comida, or food.

21 de marzo 21 de febrero No school, Presidents Day! 14 de febrero Today the third graders continued working with our new unit, La Comida (food)! We worked through two practice pages with some Spanish riddles the students had to solve, using our new vocab! January 31 Last day working with our "Sentimientos" (feelings) vocab words. The students created mini books with complete Spanish sentences to describe the illustrations on each page; some students read their books aloud to the class. January 24 Today we finished up our "star" projects from our previous class (See entry). We also played a fun partner card grab game; ask your child how we played! Great job, third graders!! January 17 No School!! January 10 Third graders continue to practice our Sentimientos vocab, or Feelings words! Today we worked on a special project that included translations with illustrations of our nine vocab words, and will also be using these to decorate our classroom. December 20 Third grade students were able to work on our brand new computers in the computer lab. The students took a look at our Spanish class web site; they also learned how to get on to this website if you are ever looking for some extra practice at home. Then we spent some time playing some of the Spanish games that are linked here in the Fun Links section. December 13 Started class off going over the calendar, using Spanish only. Discussed the days of the week, as well as the date for some numbers review! We also used our new feelings vocab words to answer ?Como estas? and describe how we are feeling! Finally, third graders got into small groups with one student acting as the "teacher" to play a fun game of ZAP! using our new vocab words. Great job, third grade!

8 de octubre Third graders practiced our Spanish this week with a fun game called ZAP! We worked in small groups with one student assigned as the teacher for each group. ZAP! helps us practice our spoken Spanish skills as well as our listening skills in Spanish; ask your child how we played! 27 de septiembre Today we continued working with all of our classroom objects words listed below. We practiced these words aloud and then we practiced writing them with a Rainbow words page. We also created illustrations to go with our vocab words. These pages were sent home. 20 de septiembre
