7 de septiembre Our first few Spanish classes have included a review of our Basic Routine that will begin each class; this includes asking and answering Como estas? (including the correct verbs and adjectives), asking about and describing the weather, going over the calendar (hoy, manana, ayer y la fecha) as well as the Hail Mary prayer in Spanish. This information will also become part of the students' oral Spanish grade. We practiced aloud, we wrote the information in our notebooks, and finally we reviewed and practiced in small groups with two fun games called "Cucharas" or spoons, and ZAP! They are doing a great job!! I am looking forward to a wonderful year.
27 de agosto Seventh grade Spanish classes have begun! All students meet once a week for class (either on Tuesday or Thursday morning) for 40 minutes. Our first meeting included a discussion of our important class rules, consequences and classroom procedures, as well as a discussion of the Grading Policy. 14 de mayo Wrapping up our school year with a small groups activity - each team has been assigned one of the topics we have practiced this year and will be creating a game to review what we have learned. We will finish with a Day of Games in which the students will then take turns practicing their Spanish, playing the games that their classmates have created!
22 de abril Finished up our last activity on the Senor Wooly website, which was the song and video titled "El Recreo Ha Terminado". We were able to work with the new Spanish vocab and phrases in the song, as well as take a look at the past tense of the verbs in the lyrics. We also worked in small groups to rearrange the Spanish word order of the sentences.
18 de marzo Took a break from our Sr. Wooly Spanish videos to work on some Spanish translation packets. The seventh grade students are able to use prior knowledge of present tense verbs, adjectives we have learned and other vocab that allows us to complete these translations. We are also discussing how cognates are helpful when trying to understand new Spanish words.
11 de marzo Continued work with our song and video "Las Excusas" (see last entry!).
5 de marzo We have now begun using Senor Wooly's website and the very first song and video we have been working with is titled "Las Excusas". We have also been using the corresponding practice pages - that include a Spanish lyrics page, a student opinion page - in Spanish only, and finally a page of "oraciones revueltas" in which the students have to put some of the Spanish lyrics from the Excusas song into proper order.
5 de febrero Seventh graders continue their unit of study with Senorita Ramos (see last entry), our new student teacher from North Park University! Next week they will begin presenting their partner work, "Celebrity Interviews", which they will present to the class using Spanish only!
8 de enero The Thursday seventh grade students are so lucky to be working with our student teacher, Senorita Ramos, from North Park University. We began our first unit with her, which covers Spanish interrogative words!

18 de septiembre Seventh grade has been reviewing and practicing Spanish subject pronouns. We also used this information to help us conjugate the Spanish verb SER (to be) in the present tense.
28 de agosto Seventh grade Spanish classes began this week using a small group activity called "Me conoces muy bien?" The students worked together to ask and answer questions of each other using Spanish only. Our classes also included a discussion of our important class rules, consequences and classroom procedures. 27 de febrero Continued work with Mi Vida Loca - www.bbc.co.uk/mividaloca We are currently on Episode #7, "Oficina de turismo" which includes practice on telling time, the date and also includes a look at the similarities and differences between our culture and that of Spain.

17 de enero Feliz ano nuevo! Happy New Year! We will now be working on something new; we are working with an interactive web based mystery that can be found on BBC's website. It is called Mi Vida Loca and we worked on Episode 1 that had us reviewing some basic and essential Spanish phrases as we took a look around the Spanish capital city of Madrid. This site is geared at teaching theme specific vocab for real life settings such as ordering food in a restaurant, shopping, getting directions but also provides us with a look at some Spanish culture and geography all while giving us a wonderful and scenic view of this Spanish city.
Week #10 The next few classes will focus on a review of Spanish pronouns as well as the present tenses of the verb TENER.

Week #27 Passed back and went over our Quiz. Also passed back all student work from our La Comida unit that was graded, and discussed. Week #26 Took our QUIZ on La Comida!! Week #25 All work from our La Comida unit will be due next week (see previous entries), and we will be having an open notebook quiz as well. Week #24 Seventh grade took a break from our usual lessons to learn a little about how Holy Week, or Semana Santa is celebrated in Spanish speaking countries. We read an article describing the “pasos” – the processions seen in Spain during Holy Week and also learned about the beautiful “alfombras” (carpets) made in Guatemala as part of Easter week. We discussed similarities and differences between our cultural celebrations of this holiday and the celebrations in Spanish speaking countries. Week #23 Continued work with la Comida (food - see previous entries) including now creating mini books that include breakfast, lunch, dinner snacks, party foods and student favorites. Week #22 We now have all of our Comida vocab in our notebooks and will be using this for several projects to work on during classtime in the upcoming sessions.
Week #21 Week #14 Continued work with our new verb TENER (see last entry). Week #13 Introduced the present tense conjugations of the verb TENER. Also reviewed Spanish pronouns. We worked through a practice page together with this new information we have learned, and will continue working with our new verb next week! Week #12 Passed back our test and discussed. Next we will be working with the Spanish verb TENER and it's many uses! Week #11 Tuesday's class did not meet due to the Holiday concert. Thursday's class took our telling time test.
Week #10 Seventh graders will be taking a test next week (open notebook) on telling time in Spanish. Student work was graded, passed back and discussed in order to be ready for next week. Week #9 Seventh graders watched a very interesting powerpoint presentation that allowed the students a look at how the Dia de los muertos is celebrated in Mexico. We continued to discuss the meaning of this holiday, why it is celebrated and also what some common symbols are that are seen at this time of year. We then decorated/frosted our "calaveras" or sugar skulls that we created last week in class!
Week #8 (No Tuesday classes due to Junior Achievement). Thursday's students are taking a break from our regular unit to discuss the Day of the Dead holiday, or, el dia de los muertos. We learned about the meaning behind this holiday, why it is celebrated and some common symbols seen during this time. This includes "Calaveras", or sugar skulls. We learned what these are and have begun making them in class.
Week #7 This was our last week to complete any projects from last week (see last entry). We also began our class with our Hail Mary prayer in Spanish, and our routine to help practice our speaking and listening skills. Finally, we discussed next week 's class which will include learning about the "dia de los muertos" and we will begin creating "calaveras" or sugar skulls.
Week #6 This week is a continuation of last week's projects; we are using our class time to complete our activities (see last entry). We are also focusing on Spanish numbers all the way up to 100.
