8 de octubre Sixth graders are now learning how to talk about family-related words and phrases. We are working through some practice pages to help us learn these words and are also working on solving some Spanish "riddles" using our familia words and phrases.
18 de septiembre Sixth graders are learning about definite and indefinite articles in Spanish. We used an interactive powerpoint on the computer projector to help learn and practice these concepts in the Spanish language.
7 de septiembre Our first few Spanish classes have included a review of our Basic Routine that will begin each class; this includes asking and answering Como estas? (including the correct verbs and adjectives), asking about and describing the weather, going over the calendar (hoy, manana, ayer y la fecha) as well as the Hail Mary prayer in Spanish. This information will also become part of the students' oral Spanish grade. We practiced aloud, we wrote the information in our notebooks, and finally we reviewed and practiced in small groups with two fun games called "Cucharas" or spoons, and ZAP! They are doing a great job!! I am looking forward to a wonderful year.
27 de agosto Sixth grade Spanish classes have begun! All students meet once a week for class for 40 minutes. Our first meeting included a discussion of our important class rules, consequences and classroom procedures, as well as a discussion of the Grading Policy. 18 de marzo We are now spending some time to work back in the textbook on LA ROPA, or, clothing words and related vocab and phrases. We will continue with this until Spring Break.
11 de marzo More practice with our "Excusas" song and video ( see last entry!).
4 de marzo We have now begun using Senor Wooly's website and the very first song and video we have been working with is titled "Las Excusas". We have also been using the corresponding practice pages - that include a Spanish lyrics page, a student opinion page - in Spanish only, and finally a page of "oraciones revueltas" in which the students have to put some of the Spanish lyrics from the Excusas song into proper order.

5 de febrero Our Country Studies posters are now just about completed, and the students have begun presenting all of their hard work (See last entry). Nice work, sixth graders!!
22 de enero We have spent our past two class sessions in the computer lab researching the Spanish speaking countries of the world. Each student has been assigned one of the 22 Spanish speaking countries to research. The sixth graders are doing a great job!!
11 de diciembre The sixth graders received their graded quizzes back and we discussed them. We are now starting our Country Studies project in which students will be researching one of the 22 Spanish speaking countries, creating an informational poster and presenting it to the class.
27 de noviembre Last day working with los objetos de la clase as well as school subjects. Next week we will have an open-notebook QUIZ!!
13 de noviembre Continued work with school subjects and classroom objects; we finished up our interviews with partners and have now moved on to a writing activity describing our classes with Spanish adjectives in complete sentences.

We have been busy using our new vocab for example, we worked in pairs on a partner interview, in which the students asked a classmate about their classes using Spanish questions and answers only. We also labeled a map of a classroom with our objects vocab. We will continue to work with this new unit.

28 de agosto Sixth grade Spanish classes began this week using a small group activity called "Me conoces muy bien?" The students worked together to ask and answer questions of each other using Spanish only. Our classes also included a discussion of our important class rules, consequences and classroom procedures. 27 de marzo We now have all of our Comida vocab in our notebooks and will be using this for several projects to work on during classtime in the upcoming sessions. 20 de marzo Continued our work in small groups (see last week). We will continue to work with "La Comida" and this will be our last unit of study for the year. We are now working in small teams to create our words and phrases for this unit of study. Each team has a different job to do, we will then come together as a class and put all of our work together as we begin our new unit. 6 de marzo Beginning a new unit, Food Words and related phrases and vocab.

13 de febrero Continuing work on our Prezi presentations. When everyone has finished, we will post some here on the website. The sixth graders are doing a great job!!
24 de enero Sixth grade students are taking a break from our regular unit and have begun working on their prezi presentations, which will be done entirely in Spanish. Prezi presentations are like powerpoints, only cooler! They will be describing ten things about themselves ( including likes and dislikes, their personalities and also will use Spanish adjectives to describe themselves). Next week we will take our work into the computer lab to begin creating the Prezi presentations.

Week #10 We are now correcting and discussing the family related vocab and phrases pages we have finished (see last week). Week #8 Sixth graders are now learning how to talk about family-related words and phrases. We are working through some practice pages to help us learn these words and are also working on solving some Spanish "riddles" using our familia words and phrases. Week #7 Today's class included passing back our graded work (description of magazine picture as well as clothing word practice page) and going over student scores. The six grade notebooks were also collected for a grade. Thursday's class will not meet due to the Junior Achievement program.
Week #6 Continued practice with written Spanish - describing a magazine picture (see last entry). We will continue working with our Spanish clothing vocabulary.
Week #5 More practice with describing in Spanish what someone is wearing. The students received a picture cut out of a magazine and had to describe clothing as well as appearance using complete Spanish sentences.
Week #4 We are now getting back into our textbook and have picked up where we left off last year. Our current unit includes describing in Spanish what you and others are wearing. We will continue to work with this info next week.

Week #29 Passed back and discussed our quiz from last week. Week #28 Took our Quiz on los objetos de la clase and school subjects!! Week #27 To celebrate Cinco de mayo, the sixth graders invited the second grade homerooms to our classes this week to work on some Spanish language games and activities. The sixth grade students acted as the Teachers for small groups of second graders and we had a great time working together. Great job, sixth grade!! Week #26 Next week is Cinco de mayo so our students learned a little about the background of this day, and why it was an important date in Mexican history. Our sixth graders will be working with some classrooms of younger students during Cinco de mayo week on some fun Spanish practice activities and games in our room. Week #25 Sixth grade took a break from our usual lessons to learn a little about how Holy Week, or Semana Santa is celebrated in Spanish speaking countries. We read an article describing the “pasos” – the processions seen in Spain during Holy Week and also learned about the beautiful “alfombras” (carpets) made in Guatemala as part of Easter week. We discussed similarities and differences between our cultural celebrations of this holiday and the celebrations in Spanish speaking countries. Week #24 Passed back student notebooks. Went over and discussed graded assignments. Week #23 Continued work with our current theme (see last week). Students are labeling a map of a classroom using our Spanish vocab words. We have also collected notebooks to be graded.
Week #22 Week #16 Sixth graders are now learning how to talk about family-related words and phrases. We are working through some practice pages to help us learn these words and are also working on solving some Spanish "riddles" using our familia words and phrases. Week# 15 Final review of Clothing words; we played a fun partner card grab game and also completed our "Spanish only" written descriptions of a picture of someone cut out of a magazine. These descriptions are hanging up in the hallway outside our room. Week#14 Passed back and discussed quizzes. Also discussed notebook grades, as well as semester grades. Week #13 Took a QUIZ on definite and indefinite articles. Week #12 Continued practice with definite and indefinite articles in Spanish.
Week #11 Week #9 We took some time to watch our classmate's Prezi presentations, and discuss what their Spanish presentations translate to in English and tell us about each other. We will now be continuing in our text, which includes a look at Spanish definite and indefinite articles.
Week #8 More prezis!! (See last entry). Tuesday's class did not meet due to Junior Achievement. Thursday's class spent our last day in the lab working on our projects and I will now attempt to post them on our website here!! Week #7 We are continuing to work with our Prezi presentations (see last entry) and the students are working very hard! The sixth graders are doing a great job!!
Week #6 Sixth graders are working on their prezi presentations in our computer lab, which are titled "Diez cosas sobre mi". They are doing a great job and we will be posting their finished work as soon as they are complete! I am looking forward to seeing their hard work!

This week the sixth graders are finishing up their work from last week with our adjective "sentimientos" posters; we ran out of time to continue with our Prezi presentations and will begin these next week instead!! They are doing a great job! Week #3 Sixth grade students will be making their own "prezi" presentations, about themselves using Spanish only! We watched a sample prezi presentation in class, which is like a power point, only better!! We will be working in the lab to create these and then we will post them here on the website, so keep watching for our finished products! We also continued to work with our new adjective words to describe our "sentimientos" or feelings and are creating posters to illustrate these Spanish adjectives. Week number Two! We are now working on adding adjectives to our list of words in order to answer the Spanish question of ?Como te sientes? The students used dictionaries to look up 15 new describing words for their "sentimientos". We will also be creating posters to illustrate these new descriptive words. Our First Week!
